Youth Recruiting Without Use of Schools!
Simultaneous with efforts to regain school access, a unit with an access challenge must develop a strategy
of alternative methods for inviting youth and families to join without the use of schools. Even units without school access problems should be using additional recruiting methods. Utilize many possible methods to invite boys and girls to join. Consider this: In a nationwide study, 88 percent of non-Scout parents reported that no one had talked to them about getting their sons involved in Cub Scouts. Also, most non-Scout parents know little about how or when their child can join. Most youth simply are not invited to join!

New Den Leader Onboarding Tool - This is a nice handy bilingual reference tool for any new Pack Den Leaders. It has the information needed that answers the standard question, “What do I do now to get ready for all those boys at our first den meeting?”  It is a simple message, what my job is, who I call for help, and the first den meeting plan with the resources needed to plan and run that very first meeting.

WEBELOS TO SCOUT TRANSITION PLAN
It should be the goal of the Cubmaster and Webelos den leaders to graduate every Webelos Scout into a Boy Scout troop. The key to accomplishing this is to begin promoting Boy Scouting when Cub Scouts are still in their Tiger, Wolf, and Bear dens, and to sell the sizzle of the great outdoors. This tool includes a timetable, position descriptions, tracking form and samples of ceremonies. Click here to learn more about how your pack can assist in the Webelos Transition to Boy Scouts.

HOW TO MARKET YOUR CUB SCOUT PACK

  Webelos To Scout Transition

Webelos to Scout Transition into Boy Scouts

One of Scouting's greatest responsibilities for our troops is to make the next level of Scouting readily available for a young man once he meets the joining requirements. Boy Scout troops should assign an assistant Scoutmaster or a troop committee member to be responsible for new Scouts, which would include developing a relationship with the Cubmaster and the Webelos den leaders. This person serves as a resource during Webelos overnight activities and builds enthusiasm among boys and their parents for the exciting challenges that await them in Boy Scouting.
  • Click here for more information on the troops role in the Webelos to Scout Transition and ways you can help build relationships with the Webelos in your area.

Recruiting New Leadership

Often when we need to recruit a new leader for our units, we use one of two methods. The first method is thinking of everyone that we know who we think would fit the bill. By recruiting new unit leaders this way, we either run out of people to recruit or we start asking the same people over and over again to fill our units' needs. The second method is simply hoping that a new Scout joins the troop and one of his family members volunteers to become a new leader.

Click Here>> Guide to Selecting Quality Leaders

The problem with these methods is that we either do not fill our unit's leadership needs or we recruit people who might not be the ideal match to the position.  The guide below outlines an effective process of finding the right person to fill your unit's leadership needs.

 Internet Rechartering

Internet Rechartering is a Web-based software application designed to make the unit charter renewal process more efficient and accurate. The Internet Rechartering tutorial is a step-by-step explanation of how to use the Internet Rechartering system. It includes screen captures and examples. We recommend that users take the tutorial before using Internet Rechartering.

A representative of each unit can now complete the paperwork for renewing a charter online. From Internet Rechartering, you can indicate returning members, add new members, and update information for an individual or the chartered organization.

To renew a charter online

    1. Sixty days before your unit's expiration date, select a renewal processor.
    2. The renewal processor attends the October roundtables to receive training and the unit access code.

  1. Sixty to 45 days before the unit's expiration date, the renewal processor clicks Recharter Now and begins the process.
  2. When the online process is completed, the renewal processor prints the completed charter renewal application.
  3. The unit leader and the Institutional head (Executive officer)  sign the charter renewal application. Bring the application along with the material you received in your recharter packet (such as the Quality Unit application), and all appropriate fees to your district's charter turn-in meeting.

Recharter Turn-in will be held on the first Saturday of December for each district.
