YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING - Required for all leaders - You may take either the on-line course or one offered in the classroom setting. This course is good for 2 years.
YOUTH PROTECTION REPORTING PROCEEDURES - FOR THREE FIRES COUNCIL
Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA.
To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies:
Effective June 1, 2010: Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.
On-Line Youth Protection - Available online at MyScoutingTraining is designed to provide all leaders and volunteers with proper information to create the safest environment possible for the Scouts in our program. Online training for youth protection is available 24/7.
THIS IS SCOUTING - BASIC SCOUTING ORIENTATION COURSE
"This is Scouting" was added to the BSA's on-line Learning Center on March 15, 2009. "This is Scouting" replaced New Leader Essentials as an course designed to give adults a good OVERVIEW of the Scouting program. Until 2012 it was a mandatory course for all volunteers. As of Jan 1, 2012, it is now highly suggested to take, but it is not required in order for an adult leader to be considered fully trained or to earn the "Trained" leader emblem/knot. This course can be found in your MyScouting account.

PHILMONT TRAINING SCHEDULE - 2013 Summer - Schedule for Philmont Training Center
Greetings from the Philmont Training Center! With so many new leaders joining the BSA this time of year, adult leader training becomes an even more important topic. As part of your discussions about training we encourage you to talk about Philmont Training Center (PTC), the National Training Center of the BSA. To assist you in this effort, we have attached a copy of our two-page flyer detailing our 2012 PTC Conference Schedule. We know that when volunteers from your council attend a PTC conference they can help strengthen your local Scouting program. Thank you for your continued efforts to promote the Philmont Training Center.
Philmont Training Center Link
Philmont Scout Ranch Link
Since 1950, Philmont Training Center in Cimarron, New Mexico has served as the National Training Center of the Boy Scouts of America. Each summer, conferences are conducted at “PTC” by the various departments and committees of the BSA national council. In 2012 there are dozens of exciting conferences to choose from that cover all aspects and programs of Scouting! You are invited! Don’t miss the chance to come to PTC next summer.
One of the most unique opportunities of a week at PTC is the chance to enjoy the magic of Philmont with your family. While you learn the “best methods” of Scouting in your conference, your family members will enjoy hikes into the Philmont backcountry, horseback rides, crafts, games, and so much more! You’ll also have plenty of opportunities to explore Philmont and the surrounding area together as a family. This will surely be a Scouting adventure you will never forget.
To register to attend PTC, log onto yourMyScoutingaccount and then click on the “event registration” tab.
